You know you’re a runner when you would rather get up before the sun than miss your run.
That was me today. I had to be at work by 7:15 am to prep for an all-day video shoot I was directing/producing. But was this going to stop me from going my morning run? Nope. At first I considered running less – but I’m not normal as I figure it’s not worth lacing up for anything shorter than an hour (I usually run 1.5 to 2 hours before work) so the alternative was to get up early. Really early. Like 4:30 am early.
But, that also meant improvising my route a bit as my normal run starts in the woods where there are no lights –and while there are no scary animals in Switzerland, whenever I run in the woods in the dark, the song “Hey there little Red Riding Hood…” pops in my head and I get paranoid that I’m going to killed by a crazy person — or a werewolf. I really need to watch less Grimm and crime dramas.
Sure, I could have worn all my headlamp gear but I knew the sun would be coming up by 5:30ish so I would only be running in the dark for about 40 minutes. And we all know how fun it is to run with a light stuck on your head (so not fun unless you are in a Ragnar).
In the end it was worth it as I feel balanced and ready to start the day. Plus, I got to witness an amazing sunrise. Bonus!
However, I think I may have officially crossed over to the “crazy” runner zone.
